Fraher are delighted to welcome Jana from the Czech Republic to the studio for a 10 month internship. Due to Jana’s previous experience, she is focusing on visualizations and rendering for various residential and commercial projects.  We sat down over a coffee and got to know her a little better.

What is your favourite piece of architecture or place to visit in the UK – Why?

Gasholder Park, Granary Square. I like to walk from Camden town to Kings Cross along the canal, passing a mixture of architecture along the way. However I feel I am still yet to find my favourite place in London

What do you do for fun, relax or unwind?

If I want to clear my mind I would go for a run. If I wanted to relax, I would take my camera and go to see an exhibition in a gallery or visit a museum. However above all, travelling is what makes me happiest, when I am travelling on my own I am able to gain strength and positive energy from all experiences.

Where is your favourite place to eat and cocktail of choice?

My favourite place to eat is Bite Mi – a Vietnamese restaurant in Brockley, near where I live. They serve authentic Vietnamese food for a reasonable price.  I have to say that I am not a big fan of cocktails, I am Czech and prefer a good crafted beer, so a  good pub with a good beer is ideal.

What is your favourite most inspirational country/city? Why?

Definitely Paris.  It offers an incredible history and is so atmospheric. It has so many beautiful places to see there, museums, galleries, restaurants and places to sit and enjoy.  It is a diverse and unique city, the view of Paris from a rooftop makes you speechless.

What is your favourite season and why?

Each season has its charms. I like winter in my home village in the Czech Republic, Spring in Paris, Autumn in London was adorable, however most of all I love the Summer – being in the sun and topping up energy.

If you could visit/ experience any piece of architecture in the world where would you go and why?

I would like to go everywhere and see everything. First on the list I would like to go to Japan to explore their historic and modern architecture. Especially their contemporary Architecture and their work with the light as sen in Tadao Ando’s Church of Light.

What is your favourite film?,

I am not a big fan of watching movies however I love music. If I had to choose a film it would be ‘The Intouchables’.

Who do you find inspiring?

My parents. The way they live, how they have managed to travel with so little means in the times when it was very difficult in my country. The way they have raised my sisters and me and have given us all of the opportunities to study and see the world. They are very open minded and have supported their children in everything they have wanted to do.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Definitely my Mum´s advice – “Money will always be here, but we won´t”. That is what she would tell me when I wanted to travel somewhere and I was not sure if it was a good idea to spend my last monies doing so.
