Situated within a prominent Conservation Area in Islington, the Lookout forms part of a compact residential site. Fraher Architects considered various alterations to maximize the space within the existing building whilst limiting the proposed footprint. Our client sought to redefine the existing space and create a number of unique focal points.
Typical for this style of property, the lower ground floor has a poor connection with the rear garden and suffers from low levels of light. These rooms are often disconnected from the other floors of the house. The proposal looks to sensitively introduce inviting spaces for sitting, socializing and cooking, around a new double height space. Feature joinery wraps around the new staircase leading to lower ground floor level, acting as a sympathetic and engaging piece of furniture.
